My Patriot Supply

My Patriot Supply was born from a passion for helping Americans achieve independence through preparedness and self-reliance. They pledge to offer us the highest quality survival products at the most reasonable prices possible, without sacrificing customer service. They offer guaranteed two-day fast delivery and have excellent customer reviews. I am really pleased that their food is grown and packaged in the USA.

My Patriot Supply has several different emergency food packages to choose from:

These packages are ideal for an economic collapse, global conflict, major natural disasters, epidemics, and power grid failures. They are packed in rugged, stackable, buckets, and last up to 25 years in storage.

They even have gluten-free emergency food! Yes, you can build your emergency food storage plan with gluten-free foods! My Patriot Supply makes building an emergency plan easy if you are on a special diet.

Franklin’s Finest Coffee is the first-ever emergency survival coffee with a true 25-year shelf life. Some don’t consider coffee a necessary survival item but think of the morale-boosting factor of a nice cup of Joe. Franklin’s Finest Coffee is 100% Colombian and great for barter or daily use.

If you are looking for individual freeze-dried food in #10 cans My Patriot Supply has you covered. They have a wide range of offerings with some of their more unique items being:

  • Vegetarian Taco Meat Substitute
  • Honey Powder
  • Whole Egg Powder
  • Butter Powder
  • Peanut Butter Powder

Not only does My Patriot Supply offer emergency food but also a wide range of other helpful emergency survival supplies like cooking and first aid supplies which we need to prepare as well. What excites me most is their excellent water filters.

Their AlexaPure Pro water filter reduces up to 99.9999% of 206 contaminants, targeting: heavy metals, lead, fluoride, chlorine, Viruses, bacteria, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals all while looking sharp in a stainless steel countertop unit.

If you are looking for one of the best emergency food supply companies out there check out My Patriot Supply. We personally have their food in our pantry waiting for a rainy day.

P.S. Don’t forget to check out the My Patriot Supply Deals of the Day! There is something great there every day.

Augason Farms

Augason Farms is a family run survival food company that started in 1972 and a pioneer in the survival food business. They source, formulate and produce some of the most nutritious emergency foods on the market. They strive to ensure that their foods not only taste great but also provide you with the calories and proteins your body needs to run at maximum efficiency. Augason Farms leadership in the market is evidenced by the fact that their retail clients include such well-known and respected companies as Walmart, Associated Foods, WinCo, Sam’s Club, Costco, and Amazon just to name a few.

They offer a wide range of emergency food kits broken down to fit your needs nicely. They offer:

  • 24 HOUR KITS
  • 72 HOUR KITS
  • 1 WEEK KITS
  • 2 WEEK KITS
  • 30-DAY KITS
  • 6 MONTH KITS
  • 1 YEAR KITS

Not only does Augason Farms offer packages like those listed above but you can also get cans and buckets of each type of food they offer including dairy products, meats, grains, fruits, and vegetables.

We also have Augason Farms food in our pantry. I like variety!

Wise Company

Wise Company takes an innovative approach in providing dependable, simple and affordable ready-made freeze dry and dehydrated food for emergency preparedness and outdoor use.

Some of the key features of their products are:

  • Lightweight and easy to prepare by just adding water
  • Up to 25-Year Shelf Life
  • 90 day no questions asked money-back guarantee

Wise Company’s Long Term Emergency Food Supply kits are packaged differently than the other companies already mentioned. Instead of making packages to last a certain number of days they package them in servings. For example, their smallest package of long term emergency food is 240 servings and their largest is 4,302 servings. This seems a little confusing to me. Let me break it down a little.

  • 240 servings = 57,320 calories (28 days @ 2000 calories/day)
  • 360 servings = 88,320 calories (44 days @ 2000 calories/day)
  • 720 servings = 171,960 calories (85 days @ 2000 calories/day)
  • 1080 servings = 264,960 calories (132 days @ 2000 calories/day)
  • 2160 servings = 501,840 calories (250 days @ 2000 calories/day)
  • 4320 servings = 1,059,840 calories (529 days @ 2000 calories/day)

Wise Company does sell smaller starter kits but they are equally as confusing based on servings rather than days.  Thankfully they do offer an easy to understand 72 Hour emergency food kit with 1813 calories per day.

It is also worth noting that they also offer gluten-free options.

While Wise Company can be confusing forcing you to break out your calculator I still stock their products in my pantry. Like I said, we like variety.

Valley Food Storage

Valley Food Storage prides itself on offering clean freeze-dried foods with no artificial colors or flavors. They are GMO-free and have no fillers. They claim to be simple food you can trust. Besides offering comprehensive long term emergency food storage kits they also cater to people with special dietary needs. They offer soy-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegetarian options.

When looking at their long-term emergency food storage kits you will notice they have two different levels, basic and premium.

The main difference between the two is the number of calories per day. Their premium kits offer more calories by adding more entrées to the kits.

For example, their one-month basic emergency food kit offers 867 calories per day and the premium version offers 1485 calories per day.

When choosing your long-term emergency food supply, be sure to consider how many calories you will need per day. Don’t simply buy the cheapest one because they are not all created equal.

Do you what to try before you buy? Valley Food Storage offers free emergency food samples.

Valley Food Storage also offers a variety of other survival-related items such as water purification tablets, knives, flashlights, and an heirloom seed pack.

Valley Food Storage offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. They say that if there is a problem they will make it right.

Legacy Food Storage

Legacy Food Storage offers emergency food supplies in buckets like the other companies listed previously. Inside the buckets, you will find the food comes in six-serving Nitrogen flushed Mylar pouches with an Oxygen Absorber placed inside. With this unique process of double protection against residual oxygen levels, Legacy Premium pouches have way less than 2%, the bare minimum standard level of oxygen for long-term food storage.

The buckets are stackable, heavy-duty, BPA-free polyethylene, and perfect for storage. Each bucket has a convenient handle that makes it easy to transport and weighs less than 40 pounds. The buckets also provide protection from water damage and rodents.

Legacy Food Storage also follows the servings per kit model rather than days per kit model, except for their 12-day breakfast, lunch and dinner bucket.

Their best-selling package is the 720 servings emergency food kit. It has 283,120 total calories and is intended to last one person for eight months. That works out to 1180 cal per day.

A fairly unique offering by Legacy Food Storage is their pet emergency supplies. These kits are kind of like a bug out bag for your pet. Inside you will find items related to food, water, first aid, shelter, sanitation, and entertainment.

Currently, we do not personally store any of Legacy Food Storage’s products. This is not because I believe them to be bad it’s just because we haven’t gotten around to buying any yet.

BePrepared

BePrepared claims to be the world’s largest dedicated online marketplace for survival food, water, and gear. They are a complete one-stop-shop for everything you need to prepare for emergencies.

They sell many different brands of emergency food but their own brand is called Emergency Essentials.

BePrepared’s Emergency Essentials food kits are QSS certified. QSS certification requires at least emergency food storage kits contain at least 1800 calories and 40g of protein per day in the kits. Be aware that one of the ways they get the grams of protein up the QSS standard is to add protein shakes to their kits. I personally like protein shakes but if you don’t this might not be the company for you.

They offer emergency food supply kits ranging from 72 hours to 1 year.

Their popular 1-Month Emergency Food Kit contains:

  • Calories Per Person, Per Day: 2,080
  • Protein Per Person, Per Day: 48 grams
  • Total Calories: 62,420
  • Total Protein: 1,468 grams
  • Total Servings: 282
  • It requires approximately 15 gallons of water to rehydrate it.

Not only do they offer emergency food supply kits but also #10 cans of a variety of freeze-dried meats and vegetables.

  • Cooked White Chicken
  • Cooked Ground Beef
  • Cooked Beef Dices
  • Pork Sausage Crumbles

Freeze-Dried Vegetables offered

  • Corn

  • Peas
  • Carrots
  • Potatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Green Beans
  • Onions
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Chopped Spinach

You can check out all of BePrepared’s offerings on their website.

Thrive Life

Thrive Life is different than other long term food storage companies in that they focus more on the ingredients rather than the meals. With Thrive Life you can buy meat, vegetables, fruit, dairy, cereals, and grains then cook the meal you love from your own recipes.

They do the best job I have seen in offering a great choice of freeze-dried vegetables including Asparagus, Broccoli, Kale, Red Bell Peppers, Zucchini and more. The great thing about this is that you can eat their vegetables while you wait for your survival garden to grow.

Most long term food storage companies don’t offer freeze-dried pork, but with Thrive Life you can buy freeze-dried diced ham, pulled pork, and sausage crumbles in #10 cans.

If you are not a very good cook Thrive Life even provides recipes for using their ingredients.

There are two things that stand out most to me about Thrive Life.

One is that by storing their food as your emergency food supply your lifestyle will be the least interrupted in the event of an emergency. This is because you will be able to continue to cook with the recipes you already love. This is because they supply the ingredients rather than providing pre-made meals.

The second thing is that Thrive Life is not only a freeze-dried food provider but also a business opportunity as they offer what I consider to be a multi-level marketing system like Avon or Amway.

Mountain House

Who has not heard of Mountain House? This is probably the biggest name in the freeze-dried food market. Mountain House traces its roots to meals they made for US Special Forces nearly 50 years ago. From the bottom of the ocean to the peak of Everest, they have fueled expeditions in every climate and situation.

Mountain House is primarily known as backpacking food, often sold in the camping section of department stores. However, they don’t only offer backpacking food but also sell kits for emergency food storage.

Their two most popular offerings are:

3-Day Emergency Food Supply

  • Designed to provide 1,706 calories per day for 72 hours. 12 Cups of water are needed to prepare all meals in this emergency kit.
  • Meals included: (1) Biscuits & Gravy, (2) Granola with Milk & Blueberries, (2) Chicken Fried Rice, (2) Chicken & Dumplings, and (2) Beef Stroganoff with Noodles.

14-Day Emergency Food Supply

  • Designed to provide 1,436 calories per day for two weeks. 60 Cups of water is needed to prepare all meals in this emergency kit.
  • Meals included: (5) Beef Stroganoff, (5) Breakfast Skillet, (2) Scrambled Eggs with Bacon, (5) Granola with Milk & Blueberries, (5) Italian Style Pepper Steak, (8) Rice & Chicken, (5) Chili Mac, and (5) Spaghetti.

Mountain House has an outstanding reputation for providing quality freeze-dried food. They even offer a 30-year taste guarantee. The company has a long history and I’m confident that they will be around in 30 years to honor the guarantee. Though I don’t think they will have many returns.

Backpackers Pantry

Emergency food supply
Backpackers Pantry was inspired by a group of Girl Scouts on a hike carrying heavy canned food back in 1951. They are based in Boulder, Colorado where they produce and ship their products from.

While they do offer 1, 3, 6, and 12-month emergency food packages as well as #10 cans for emergency food supplies, their main focus is on outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting, camping, and backpacking.

Their website doesn’t offer enough information to know how many calories you will receive each day in their 1-12 month emergency food supply kits. However, here is what you get in the 1-month supply as an example.

1-Month Supply for 1 Person

  • (1) #10 Can Louisiana Red Beans & Rice (27 Servings)
  • (1) #10 Can Santa Fe Style Rice w/ Chicken (18 Servings)
  • (1) #10 Can Jamaican Jerk Rice w/ Chicken (17 Servings)
  • (1) #10 Can Mashed Potatoes w/ Gravy & Beef (23 Servings)

Backpackers Pantry could be your greenest choice in emergency food supplies. They have an upcycling program so you can recycle your Backpackers Pantry flexible packaging.

Also, since they are currently the only freeze-dried food company to offer this program, you can also send their competitors’ products in the same envelope FREE of charge.

Peak Refuel

Peak Refuel is a top-quality emergency food company. They are primarily geared for backpackers and campers but also make a great option for long-term storage.

However, these are more like gourmet dishes and won’t last as long as many other companies’ do. You will only get about 5 years out of these guys.

Many people are raving about the quality and flavor of the food. It is nonGMO and made without fillers.

Meals offered by Peak Refuel

  • Breakfast Skillet
  • Chicken Alfredo Pasta
  • Strawberry Granola
  • Homestyle Chicken and Rice
  • Beef Chili Mac
  • Beef Stroganoff
  • Chicken Pesto

Peak Refuel seems like it would be a good option to stock for those “special” moral boosting meals you want to have while hunkered down during an emergency.

How much emergency food supplies to purchase?

There are three things you need to know in order to decide how much emergency food you need to purchase.

  1. How many people you will be feeding.
  2. How long you will be feeding them.
  3. How many calories they will require each day.

From there you simply choose a package or several packages that will accommodate your needs.

How to store your emergency supply?

Best practices for long term storage of your emergency food supply is to keep it out of direct sunlight, in a room temperature stable environment, in its original unopened packaging.

What to look for in a survival food company?

When researching this topic the most important difference I saw was the number of daily calories included in their kits. Make sure you are getting what you are expecting.

What is the best emergency food supply?

The simple answer is the best emergency food supply is one that meets your nutritional needs for the length of time you need it to. Other than that it is really a matter of personal preference.
